Track ReViews - 2008/04/24
With plenty of new releases in 2008, one can imagine just how busy DJs and label owners must be in their search for new music to rock the socks off of club-goers and audiophiles everywhere. From Valdyr comes this month's edition of ReGen Track ReViews...

Avi Ghosh: "The Art of Feeling Low"

As a side project of Defy, Avi Ghosh has created another album (Severing the Tie) filled with impeccably written and produced tracks, sure to ensnare the listener. One of the strongest tracks on this album, "The Art of Feeling Low" has a moody and alternative rock vibe sounding similar to artists such as A Perfect Circle, but still holding on to some of the electronic elements brought forth by Defy. There's nothing expected or complacent here; the song (as with the entire album) is a perfect blend of desperate emotion with technical perfection.

Diffuzion: "Wired Tunes"

One of the newer offerings from Alfa Matrix, Diffuzion is releasing their debut album on the label this spring. The band is drawing comparisons to bands such as Zombie Girl and Ayria; Diffuzion therefore has a great sound, but unfortunately nothing stands out as very original. Of the three tracks offered by Alfa Matrix to their DJ pool, "Wired Tunes" was definitely the strongest. This track is a definite crowd pleaser on the dance floor, and many DJs and fans alike should find it to be easy to accept and enjoy in today's club scene. Technically, the only real complaint is that the vocals could have been a bit more prominent in the mix. Otherwise, it's an enjoyable - though a bit forgettable - track.

Essence of Mind: "Piss Artist"

A new pure industrial offering from Alfa Matrix, Essence of Mind brings some good ol' classic industrial rock with exceptionally strong vocals to the table. The in-your-face sound of tracks such as "Piss Artist" is sure to have a wide acceptance value across the board, from gristly veterans of the scene to newcomers of stompy club industrial. While there's nothing specifically mind-blowing or original about this track, it's a sure win in a DJ's arsenal, and destined to fill a dance floor with energy.

Lujhboia: "Sins of My Past"

If one had to decide which track off Lujhboia's latest release would be the single, this track would be it. As an unsigned and relatively unknown artist, it is a blessed relief to hear such an innovative and fresh spin on today's harsh EBM scene. "Sins of My Past" is a catchy and danceable track full of variation and sure to please any club-goers who are fans of such artists as Dawn of Ashes and Psyclon Nine. The only complaint is that the track sounds a little thin in production, though that may be to the fact that the entire album is distributed (for free on the band's website), in 192kps mp3 format. One would hope that the track will sound even better on a pressed CD, and with talent like this, it's hard to imagine Lujhboia will stay unsigned for long.

Leæther Strip: "When Blood Runs Dark (Club Version)"

Gearing up for the upcoming special edition of Leæther Strip's next album, Alfa Matrix is releasing a digital EP of dance tracks to entice the fans. The title track of the EP has all Leæther Strip fans have come to love and expect from the band: darkly devastating vocals and plenty of 'oontz.' While a very well produced with a catchy hook, the song is extremely unvaried and therefore much too long. More of a dance club filler rather than being able to stand on its own as a meritorious listen, this entire EP may not do much more than satisfy hardcore Leæther Strip fans waiting for the next album.
