An interview with Chris Ruiz of And One
Posted: Thursday, February 23, 2006
By: pHil

At this time, who (aside from Steve) is contributing to the band?

Ruiz: It's me (Chris), and Gio van Oli. Gio is playing keyboards. Steve is the mastermind.
?
So you are back in the band? What are your contributions?

Ruiz: Yes, I'm back in And One. At that time when we were in the States, I was just a 'substitute' for joke, since he was afraid to fly. I will try to do some lyrics and programming for And One, also some of the backing vocals and will try to sing a song alone for the next CD. I will stay in And One until the end of days now.

Forgive the bad pun but what is the current state of Crushing State?

Ruiz: Crushing State is still alive, but frozen down in the moment. I'm writing songs for And One now. But when the And One CD is ready, I will be recording the "CUT" EP in the same studio. I hope to be done until February next year.

Will Steve Naghavi be doing any guest work for Crushing State?

Ruiz: I don't know. It's possible. He made backing vocals for a song years ago. But we never finished that song. Last week he found the ADAT tapes and had the idea to finish them now. So we will see. But the main thing is, that I can record from my Crushing State songs in And One's Deutschmaschine Studios, and that's what is really important. That sound will kick your asses, guys.

Now that Joke Jay and Rick Schah have left the band (from what I understand) how does this affect the sound of And One?

Ruiz: Not much I think. All the music was done by Steve. But I think the funny songs like "Pimmelmann" will go away. It will be harder for the future, more back the bones. More aggressive.?

Will you be releasing any new singles before the new CD?

Ruiz: No, I don't think so. We will be releasing a single a short time after the CD release, I think. I will keeping you updated.

The Project Pitchfork "Timekiller" remix by And One is a great track. How much time would you say goes into your remixes?

Ruiz: Oh, that's normally a questions for Steve as he does all the remixes. But I think he made it in few days.

Would you say the work you did for Project Pitchfork or Cleaner are more like remixes or covers??

Ruiz: You're right man. It's a strange thing when Steve is doing remixes. Normally it's more of a cover than a remix that's right. It's Steve way to make remixes to put his own vocals on it. Some people have said to me 'Hey your new song Timekiller is great!' haha.?

What is the title of the upcoming CD?

Ruiz: Aggressor

What is the expected release date of the upcoming CD?

Ruiz: We hope to say in time. The release date is planned for February 2002. The first And One CD with an official United States release over at Metropolis.?

Is "Amerika Brennt" A prelude to the future sound of And One?

Ruiz: No. It was not more than a 'does the studio work after the move' test song. The thing is that Steve came back to Berlin. As we were ready with building up the studio that fucking terrorist attack happened and we made "Amerika Brennt!" Our sympathy with all the victims and their families.

Does And One plan on a U.S. tour after the release of the new CD?

Ruiz: Yes. We're coming back next year. It's very important for us to see you guys again.

Where can I acquire the "Get You Closer" music video, or any other And One videos??

Ruiz: I don't know. A lot of people asked us the same. When we have enough videos we will be releasing a DVD.

We look forward to any new And One/Crushing State news and music. Thanks!?

Ruiz: So, I hope I answered well enough for you. Watch out for the Crushing State E.P. "CUT"! All songs are ready and waiting to get re-recorded at the And One Studios. When everything works out, I bring it to the States to find a label.
