Fast and low beats bring a metallic tang to the lounge music of the future.
Voodoo J has put together a group of tracks with respectable breadth and diversity where the vast world of electronic music is concerned. The songs range from very vague and simple, such as in "Friday," to focused and methodical, such as in "Cyber Road."
This release shines as what could be called "in-between" music. That is, it is mood music more than anything else, and will not only serve a DJ well in moving the atmosphere up or down, but will appeal to many listeners as something to play when they aren't sure what kind of a mood they're in. If this sounds like a place where you find yourself a lot lately, then Crazy Night is for you. And if, in the course of listening to this album that is made for "in-between" points in life, you find that you're in the mood for some minimal, ambient, but nonetheless somewhat upbeat music, you'll probably leave Crazy Night in all the way through, in which case you'll probably also remember Voodoo J's name when the EP is over.
"Crazy Night" has a very slow, gradual buildup which almost contradicts the low, worrisome, and slightly discordant tones that are featured. "Karosta" employs very cavernous, hollow synths with descending notes that make the listener feel edgy and relaxed at the same time. "Elektrotribe" doubles as a great track and a promotional piece. It is probably the most experimental track on this release, featuring an almost tribal beat, creative clicks, and subterranean synths, while simultaneously promoting the up-and-coming Elektrotribe label with its name.
Overall, this EP is great to pop in, kick back to, and chill with. It's not too hard and not too soft. It's just right, and will fit a transition from work to relaxation, while also being appropriate for filling the time before a night out, or for bringing the mood down after returning home.
