Poisonous Friend

After the success of two widely popular albums, No Sleep Demon and Beyond Flatline, electronic wizards Frank Spinath and Martin Vorbrodt, better known as Seabound, return to the forefront with their latest release, Poisonous Friend. This release is an EP and a single all in one as the title track "Poisonous Friend" is found on Beyond Flatline and several remixes of that track are included on this disc. There are other remixes of tracks from their last album as well as two previously unreleased tracks that create a more flowing EP than a strict single-oriented release. Seabound's music is melodic and moving as their harmony on vocals, especially during their song choruses, is powerful and uplifting. They create highly addictive EBM beats that are so wrapped in synth programming that you can easily lose yourself in the sound. The EP moves with ease from dance club-friendly and accessible to harder-edged industrial thumpings. This is achieved through a well thought-out list of remixers for these tracks. Bands such as the fast and furious Cut.rate.box, the always innovative musical styling of Haujobb, and the more dance floor-friendly synthpop sounds of Iris are all represented on this release. Another important note of the remixers on this disc is the old school industrial masters, Severed Heads, who add just a hint of nostalgia to make the disc all the more pleasing. This disc is a perfect sister piece to Beyond Flatline, which is a must-have album for your collection. Once you get that one, get this EP. You will be pleased with both.
