Seductive and dreamy, IAMX provides bargain basement glamour at its finest.

Recently released for the US audience, Kiss + Swallow features 14 visionary tracks by the former front man of Sneaker Pimps. Artistic and highly danceable, Chris Corner's cabaret-influenced style oozes out of every musical pore, and it smells so sweet.

Many artists lose focus without the constant input of band mates, producers, engineers, or even friends. Corner, however, thrives on total control, and it shows. Like a glitter encrusted top hat, he is a master of gaudy elegance, somehow inspiring thoughts of both silver screen decadence and off-Broadway daring. His voice teases and aches, begs for attention, and seduces anyone within its reach. From the beginning of the opening title track, the listener's ears are treated to Corner's yearning vocals backed by a pop-locking electronic rhythm. "Sailor" employs a strong beat and rhythmic vocals to tell a story, while "Naked but Safe" features layers of vocals over moderately disjoined squeals and keyboard work. Not one song is simple or overly similar to the others in any way. Experimentation and originality are key. After the first three very electronic songs, "Simple Girl" and "Mercy" are practically underdone. Two sweetly mellow ballads, the seductive Corner tones down his charisma a few notches to croon so personally you may feel like a perverted eavesdropper. But that wouldn't stop you from listening, would it?

Every song on Kiss + Swallow is seductive in its own way; with Chris Corner behind them, it's no wonder. Whether backed by heavy beats, endless echoes, or just five layers of his own voice, his sugary tenor lends itself beautifully to the romantic themes and theatre-worthy scores.
