Slipping occupies areas of the galaxy's disc, the more rural and less explored areas of music.
With their album, Hound, Scarlet Slipping successfully displays a beautifully transitional fountain of gothic and darkwave music. Tears swirl through the flowing waters of their vocals, as if they are an instrumental themselves, whispering in the background. It is a pained album that tells a beautiful story.
One of the more upbeat songs on the album is "Transcend Now to Nebula" with its peppy hi-hats and other percussive elements. The track still traces its fingers around the cobwebs of the macabre, but hinges on a new wave quality that is magnificent and highly enjoyable. Dawn Wagner, Scarlet Slipping's vocalist, is a siren. Her voice sucks the listener in, grabbing one's full attention, particularly during the song "Breathe" in which she encourages the listener to participate in her verbal requests, "Breathe in." This track almost could assist a yoga participant in breathing exercises, or gently rock a baby off to sleep. This delicate song is delightful. "Death Melody" is perfect accompaniment for a haunted mental hospital as it slithers down dark abandoned hallways, inviting the listener to peer into its rooms and learn about its history. The comforting greeting of history cradles the listener like a lullaby.
She presents a folk-tale in musical form; it sounds as if the songs are thousands of years old and are encrypted in ancient history. The lyrics are extremely singled out through emotions, displaying the independent anguish of the vocalist. Much like a galaxy, with all the busy life in the nucleus, or like the downtown of a large city, Scarlet Slipping occupies areas of the galaxy's disc, the more rural and less explored areas of music. It holds a very magical yet isolated sound, and the combination is gorgeous.
