Revolting Cocks
Sex-O Olympic-O

A new lineup to carry the franchise makes for perhaps the most debaucherous and yet the most cohesive RevCo album yet.

Ah, the Revolting Cocks; the most successful of the Ministry side projects. What more can be said about the raucous and raunchy circus of musical freaks? Since 1985, Al Jourgensen has led the group down debaucherous paths of industrial rock and dance that has aroused audiences around the world, though they've endured virtually every form of censorship the legal system will permit, from being included on the PMRC's "banned list" to having been denied work permits in the UK. Sex-O Olympic-O marks a turning point in the group's history as the first album to be released following Jourgensen's retirement from performing live. Instead, he has handed the reigns to a younger group of musicians with the promise of continuing the RevCo franchise for years to come. From the first sleazy bass lines of "HookerBot3000," we are immediately introduced into the band's world of lust and sin; vocalist Josh Bradford comes to the fore with his own unique style of sexually-charged abandon, while guitarist/keyboardist/programmer Sin Quirin blasts out a set of classic riffs that exemplify the true spirit of down and dirty rock & roll. Sharing the guitar and keyboard duties is Clayton Worbeck, whose contributions may seem subtle until the second half of the album when the synthesizers start to gain in prominence as on the smarmy "Touch Screen," as well as Quirin's pulsating dance floor friendly drones on "I'm Not Gay," and the bursts of ambience that sprinkle "Wizard of Sextown," adding to the epic quality of the seven-minute-plus romp through a filthy village of Hobbits. Of course, it wouldn't be RevCo without their trademark sense of humor, touching on every sexy taboo imaginable from strippers and porn stars to homosexuality to incest. Songs like "HookerBot3000" and "Red Parrot" are perfect for any strip club, the slinky rhythms and gritty bass lines bringing to mind images of disheveled bikers drinking their cares away as they shout at naked women strutting their stuff on the stage, the latter track containing what could be a mantra for the band: "RevCo! Let's go! RevCo! To our second home!" And then you have the band's ode to incest with "Cousins," smarmily referring to it as "My dirty little secret," and stating in true RevCo fashion that "Keeping it in the family can be a great idea, though at times things can get a little tricky." But wait, there's even more to laugh at with "Lewd Ferrigno" as the group pays homage to the former bodybuilder and Incredible Hulk actor in their own inimitable fashion, characterizing him as a God among porn stars. Ending with a dance remix of "HookerBot3000," Sex-O Olympic-O could very well be the Revolting Cocks' most cohesive album to date, one that proves that the spirit of RevCo is bigger than the sum of its members. Even with Jourgensen limiting his output to the studio only, the trio of Bradford, Quirin, and Worbeck are more than capable of carrying the mantle and keeping the party going until the end of time, full of all the pornographic delights and alcohol-induced frenzy you could ever want.
