Wearing a Tolkien-esque elf mask, Mortiis hits the studio, releasing his latest electro-rock barrage, titled The Grudge. Mortiis again breaks the barriers of heavy metal and industrial electronics, creating a sound that's all his own. Now backed by a live band, Mortiis' sound takes on a whole new dimension from previous works. The Grudge is a hard and melodic tapestry of sound that will keep your head banging and your mind swirling. Starting the album off is "Broken Skin," which drives you to the edge of the abyss with thrashing guitars, fast tempo beats, and synthesizer programming that competes with the best in the business. This track is a perfect starter to an album that takes you by the ears and knees you in the face with pulsating power. The album reminds me of Trent Reznor in his Broken era, where it was all heavy guitars and crunching synths. The Grudge borrows elements of that style and takes it 100 steps further. This album is pure electro-metal, and Mortiis has taken this new sound a little closer to becoming a realized genre. It will have heavy metal fans moshing their way to the hospital, while industrial fans will enjoy dancing and thrashing to the processed beats and programmed loops. Go get this album. I loved it and you will too! That is my guarantee.
