Newcomers to the electronic scene, Kobold break through with their promotional EP, A Taste of Copper. This EP is four tracks of industrial music similar to the Dismantled style of music making. The song layerings for the most part are minimal as they abound with low frequency synthesizer parts that create an eerier feeling for the tracks as a whole. The vocals are also similar to that of Dismantled in that they are heavily processed and at some times blend in with the minimal soundscapes adding to the overall sound, but detracting from the actual lyrical content. This does not alter my perception of the overall feel for the album as I am always more focused on the musical composition than on the vocals, but it could discourage some people from really being into this band. On the whole, this four-track promo EP is a good taste of what Kobold has to offer. If you are into more minimal industrial and you'd like to check out the disc yourself, Kobold is offering it for free on their Web site.
