Seattle's Glis has altered his style of late. He has darkened up his image and his sound and Disappear! is a perfect introduction to the upcoming album. This is not the type of CD you put on to reflect, think, or relax. This CD means business and it's about moving your body!
This release from Alfa Matrix relentlessly assaults you with dance floor beats. It's an ideal purchase for those who like high-energy club-style tracks. It has futurepop synths with a darkened twist, steady and sometimes crunchy beats, dark vocals (not overly distorted), and an upbeat rhythm. I'll say it again: This is a dance floor CD!
The EP offers two extremely strong tracks, "No Pulse" and "Disappear!," that hold their own without a doubt. Beyond this, remixes from Flesh Field, Grendel, Cyclone-B, C-Drone-Effect, Virtual><Embrace, Tactical Sekt, Re-Course, and Unter Null are also included, and all of them are good too, if this is the style of music you are into. Some are a bit faster, some a bit slower; some are typical, some are more synthy, and some are more crunchy/harsh.
Of my favorite remixes (all "club-ready"), Flesh Field's is an apocalyptic interpretation of "No Pulse" and is undeniably Flesh Field. I also love Grendel's mix that offers that dance-oriented edge perfect for club play. Re-Course's mix of "Disappear!" will also no doubt be a dancefloor assault, with its catchy synths that club-goers seem to love these days.
I think Glis's new sound is reminiscent of the strongest releases in today's scene while maintaining an edge over many of the clone bands out there because it's really good. This guy is talented! And the remixes chosen for this EP complement the original tracks. This release will not disappoint those who are interested in the aggressive, dancefloor industrial sound, mixed with the catchiness of futurepop.
