This is Eire's finest return with an EP filled to the brim with top drawer synthpop tunes. The title track is without a doubt one of ESH's best tracks to date as John Giacobello's production expertly brings out the best of this totally dynamic, instantly memorable, and infectious piece that deserves to appear in anyone's synthpop Top 10. The instrumental "Time/Travel" is just as infectious and danceable; even the voice of the old UK Talking Clock makes an appearance!
The remixes that make up the remainder of the EP don't stray too far from the established style, and only No Comment's slow mix of "High" and Count to Infinity's '60s-like take of "Little Alfie" make any radical changes. As an aside, if they play their cards right with the latter track, they might be able to cash in on the forthcoming remake of the Alfie film. You never know, it could happen! The band's own Idiot Grin remix of "Film Star" (from 2001's Pop Robot) sees Aidan again proving his worth as a rapper over backings reminiscent of Kraftwerk's Trans Europe Express while Tycho Brahe turn in a solid remix of "We are Industry," another track well worthy of praise, and the promising SynthetiK FM will do their own prospects no harm at all with a fine version of "Dollar in Blue Collar" with some ear-catching sequencing very much in the forefront.
As the band become more established their style is becoming increasingly recognizable, and with the fourth album Urbanism just around the corner, ESH are now really coming into their own. It's analog synthpop that sounds retro with occasional kitsch touches and yet totally modern at the same time. Don't worry about how they do it. Just be thankful that they do!
