Psyche
Endangered Species

As an electronic pop group in the '80s, Psyche made a name for themselves mainly in their home country of Canada and in Europe. After many personnel changes and a few new releases, Psyche bring us this 2-CD album complete with a few new songs, many remixes of the tracks from The Hiding Place in which Psyche is heading -- a more club-friendly, beat-driven sound. However, they still retain the somber pop feel that has endeared Psyche's fans for many years. Lyrically, the new songs are rather average, but some of the choruses get really catchy like that of "Damaged Soul." The sinister beat and forlorn lyrics of "Memento" make it stand out above all the other new songs. The remixes on the album are absolutely superb; the Sixty Winters Club Mix of "Damaged Soul" and the Sushiboy Tokyo Club Mix of "Goodbye Horses" are the best tracks on the disc. Check out the Misguided Angels reprint for some older songs and some remixes by several industrial electronic bands.
