"I know exactly who did it! Caustic did it!" ...and so will you after you ask the DJ what song you were just sweating it up to on the dance floor. Get ready to move to Caustic's Unicorns, Kittens, and Shit.

From the opening self-deprecating track, "This Track Will Get Skipped a Lot," you know you are listening to someone who has a refreshing sense of humor. What follows is some of the best, though at times too typical, rhythmic noise you'll dance to this year. All of this coming at you thanks to DJ/promoter/producer and Madison, WI resident Matt Fanale. This album is a must have for fans of power noise and for any DJ spinning even the occasional noise track. For everyone else, it falls under the category "should listen to." This album documents the highs and lows that Caustic has to offer, and as good as some songs are, others are very disappointing. Still, it's those shining moments that make this a must have.

The tracks "Love that Taint" and "MMM Papscraper I Love You" are regulars at any club that plays such music and each is a shinning example of what power noise can bring to the floor. "I Gave the Blind Boy My Eyes (But Stole His Tongue) (Empusae vs. Caustic)" stands out from other songs on the album in a few ways: it's slightly slower at 120 BPM and makes use of synthesizers to add a melodic element not present on most of this album's tracks. I'll go as far as to say that this song is pretty. "Hitler Ruined that Moustache for Everyone," with its droning background and mix of live-sounding and obviously-programmed drums, has an eerie feel that is captivating. On "Mimeticaustic (Mimetic Mix)," elements are mixed in what seems the sparsest fashion of the album. The overall effect is that of a cleaner sounding song, with well spaced elements and again the rare use of a melodic synthesizer line.

On all of the songs, you'll find liberal use of quotes and/or dialogue samples. Not something new, but Matt's use of them is stylish. For the majority of songs, you'll find that he makes his point of the song with the quotes and uses the same quotes repeatedly, often times as rhythmic elements. Perhaps not groundbreaking, but it's well done to say the least. There has to be a balance, and that's what this album has. As much as it shines, it falters, but in those moments that it shines, it's a delight. It doesn't define nor defy power noise, but packages up some of the best the genre has to offer.
