Deconstruction

The genre of power noise is one of increasing popularity and should be more closely examined by those who are into electronic music. Bands such as Noisex, P.A.L., Imminent Starvation, and Converter, to name a few, have been around for years, but at some points their music was a little too inaccessible for a first-time noise listener. While there were still aspects of the power noise of today in their tracks, they also went into the experimental and darkwave realms quite a bit. Terrorfakt seems to have their collective feet firmly planted to the power noise sound. New York City natives, these boys really know how to fuck up some speakers. Deconstruction is 15 tracks of intense crunching beats and jagged synths. If Satan held a rave these guys would headline the bastard alongside Hellsau and The Berserker. The music is rhythmic in every aspect, but has enough change-ups to not delve too deeply into the trance noise that Noisex and P.A.L. are more familiar with. "Deconstruction" has a hard hitting bass beat that is distorted so it sounds like it is coming out of a radio that can't quite get that station in perfectly... know what I mean? There is a static charge about it. Low hums and a pissed-off sample of someone yelling about how they are going to "rip your fucking face off" are added to this blend of insanity. "A.L.F." has a speedier breakbeat style with synthesizers that are strangely sinister and melodic at the same time. "Death Deal Tactics" is such a harsh cacophony of noise beats. You know those Sierra Mist commercials where they compare the soda with cold chilling imagery? Well imagine Central American guerrilla troops in hot pursuit of their enemy firing their guns all the while, knowing that when they catch the bastard they are going to cut off his balls and feed them to him. Yeah it's something like that! "Bells of War" brings a trance feel that is still varied enough to not fall into the aforementioned Noisex sound. Synthesizers roll like waves from speaker to speaker and vary in pitch. The drums are basic army-stomping bass beats that are so in-time they would make Sergeant Slaughter proud. This album is the best noise release that I have heard in a long, long time. There have been many good releases of the year... some damn good ones, but Terrorfakt's sound has me caught in its blender of noise. Noise buffs have no fear when purchasing this one. Stereos across the world have much to fear as this one is going to tear the asshole out of many a speaker.
