The third song released from the soon-to-be-released FullBlackHabit displays 16volt's signature style while infusing some new drum & bass influence, making for one hard-hitting track.
Building up the anticipation for a new album is not always a simple task, but with 16volt unveiling a new song from the upcoming FullBlackHabit every two weeks on their MySpace page, fans of the coldwave rockers are surely biting their nails. "Cables and Wires" is the third new song featured, further proving just what a monstrous bit of machine rock FullBlackHabit will be. Full of the chunky guitars and Eric Powell's vitriolic vocals, there is no denying that this is 16volt at its finest. What's different and ultimately notable about this track is the presence of some drum & bass flavor, not typical of 16volt; perhaps some could consider it a byproduct of Powell's recent association with Cyanotic and the Glitch Mode Squad (who performed a remix of "American Porn Song" on the Hordes of the Elite compilation, and with whom Powell has collaborated on the new Cyanotic album), but that would downplay the sense of progress 16volt has achieved. They have still retained the signature 16volt sound while managing to infuse new styles and influences, and when you've been around as long as 16volt, that's no easy task either. Still, "Cables and Wires" hits hard with everything we know and love about 16volt... what more do you need?
